Regional Occupational Programs

Provider: EL MONTE UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT - CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION

The center provides education services for adults and adolescents, age 14 to 18 who reside in the El Monte Union High School District who are seriously behind in their credits, who have dropped out, or who are in danger of dropping out of high school. Services include alternative education, dropout programs, regional occupational programs and vocational education. ROP programs are offered at 6 locations in the El Monte Union High School District. There are geographic restrictions.

The center provides an individualized program of basic education and vocational services. Alternative Education students attend the center instead of their regular high school. The staff assess the students' needs and skills and devise individualized programs.

The program includes independent study, ROP, and work experience components. Students may participate in the independent study component which includes English and Math and other general education courses the person may need. Instruction is offered on a tutorial-style basis and students work at their own pace in a computerized learning laboratory setting.

In addition, as appropriate, students may participate in the Regional Occupational Program (ROP) which provides job training skills in more than 20 occupational areas.
