Planning/Coordinating/Advisory Groups (Homelessness Issues)
Provider: SHELTER PARTNERSHIP
The program provides coordination and planning assistance, technical assistance, community awareness and information regarding community-based agencies which provide short-term shelter and permanent housing for homeless people in Los Angeles County. The agency's purpose is to develop and improve shelter resources and to create permanent, affordable housing for homeless people in Los Angeles County. The agency does not provide shelter or any others direct services to homeless people. There are no geographic restrictions.
The agency solicits product donations from major manufacturers, distributors and corporations. These goods are stored in the Shelter Resource Bank and are distributed to qualified agencies on the basis of need and availability. Staff also provide coordination and planning assistance by assessing the needs of homeless people, by coordinating social, health, and employment services with the emergency shelter programs, and by serving as an organizing unit to coordinate private funders and agencies in need of financial assistance.
Community awareness and information services include periodic studies and reports which provide current statistics and information about homelessness and housing. The agency has a small library which contains local, regional and national studies, reports and other literature on homelessness and related issues.

Application Procedure
Call for information. Most services such as technical assistance do not require applications. However, agencies must call to set up an appointment to meet with one of the staff for technical assistance including help in writing a grant. Interested individuals or groups can also call the agency to enroll in the monthly workshops, to receive the newsletter or to purchase reports and shelter directories. The library is available by appointment only.
Homeless service providers call to access the Shelter Resource Bank. First-time users of the bank must fill out an application. Once the agency is accepted into the bank, a catalogue is sent four times annually with items available to order. Allocations are based on the items that are available in the bank and the size of the organization. Shelters pick up their orders at the Shelter Partnership warehouse. People who want to donate their skills and talents or who wants to donate used goods call the agency to be referred to a shelter in their area.
Fees
There are no fees for most services; there is a nominal fee for reports and shelter directories. Photocopy of materials in the library is five cents.
