Legal Representation

The office provides legal services for the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County. The Office of County Counsel provides advice and counsel to the Board of Supervisors, the County and other public officers and agencies; assists in representing the County's position in the State Legislature; legal representation; and serves as the legal officer of Los Angeles County, but does not engage in the practice of criminal law.
In addition, the office provides legal services to attorneys and social service agencies needing access to the Juvenile records of the County DCFS. The agency can facilitate the access through a formal request procedure. Attorneys/social workers may call the designated number for a copy of the Declaration in Support of Access (DAS) to Juvenile Records or visit the DCFS web site under the parent or youth tab. After the receipt of the completed DAS form, it takes 3 to 6 months for records to be copied and produced. Juvenile Court records are not available through the office of the County Counsel. The agency obtains these records through the Juvenile Court Clerk's office.
