Provider: CALIFORNIA STATE CONTROLLER'S OFFICE - LOS ANGELES OFFICE

The State Controller is a state government office that provides public awareness related to accountability and disbursement of California's financial resources. Services include financial management workshops, property tax postponement information for eligible older adults and unclaimed property assistance. There are no geographic restrictions.

The controller provides financial education information to local cities, counties, school districts, and special districts on how to best comply with the system for receiving reimbursement for local programs mandated by the State.

Through the Unclaimed Property (UCP) Program, the Controller holds unclaimed assets that have been turned over to the state by businesses and other organizations as required by law, and assists citizens to find these assets. Common types of unclaimed property are bank accounts, stocks, bonds, uncashed checks, insurance benefits, wages and safe deposit contents. The office also accepts government waste and fraud complaints from taxpayers.
