Mosquito Control
Provider: SAN GABRIEL VALLEY MOSQUITO AND VECTOR CONTROL DISTRICT
The agency provides public health services for individuals who live in Alhambra, Altadena, Arcadia, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Bradbury, Claremont, Covina, Duarte, El Monte, Glendora, Industry, Irwindale, La Puente, La Verne, Monrovia, Monterey Park, Pasadena, Pomona, Rosemead, San Dimas, San Gabriel, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena, Temple City, Walnut, West Covina and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County that are within the San Gabriel Valley. Services include mosquito control, public awareness/education and workshops/symposiums. There are geographic restrictions.
The agency only controls for black flies and mosquitoes.
Surveillance of vector-borne diseases consist of monitoring and testing for mosquitoes which can transmit West Nile Virus, St. Louis Encephalitis, Western Equine Encephalomyelitis. Diseases spread by mosquitoes are monitored by collecting adult mosquitoes.
Vector control consists of using physical, biological, and chemical measures to control the vectors. For mosquitoes removing standing water, use of mosquitofish and chemical treatment of water when needed.
Public education services include outreach to community groups, schools and businesses through educational programs, pamphlets, brochures and public speaking engagements. Workshops are also provided for public and private agencies.
