Silver Alerts
Provider: LA FOUND
The agency provides services for older adults and people with developmental disabilities in Los Angeles County through the LA Found Initiative. There are no geographic restrictions.
Project Lifesaver tracking bracelets are available for individuals who are mobile, can wander, and have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, dementia, autism spectrum disorder, or other cognitive impairments, including some mental illnesses. The bracelets can be located using receivers carried in Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department helicopters and designated ground units.
While the bracelet is not a GPS device and is not under constant monitoring, when an individual wearing a bracelet goes missing, caregivers call 911 and the police agency or sheriff's station will inform the Sheriff's Department Mental Evaluation Team who will deploy receivers to help locate the missing person.
Each bracelet has a unique radio frequency that sheriffs use to track the device; caregivers will not be able to track the device on their own. The device is not meant to replace care and supervision. Caregivers are responsible for calling or notifying 911 if their loved one is missing.
Speakers are available to provide public presentations about the program.
To qualify for a bracelet, participants must be diagnosed with Alzheimer's, dementia, autism spectrum disorder, or a cognitive impairment; be mobile and prone to wandering; and be a resident of LA County.
