Mental Health Related Support Groups
Provider: MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA OF LOS ANGELES - LONG BEACH - MHALA VILLAGE
The program provides mental health services for homeless adults, age 18 to 65, who live in the City of Long Beach. Services include mental health case management, rehabilitation, self-help groups and volunteer opportunities. Services are restricted to Long Beach residents.
The program provides an intensive case management and rehabilitation program for adults who have severe mental illness called The Village - Integrated Service Agency (ISA). Clients meet with staff to set personal goals and devise an individualized service plan. Based upon the individual plan, a case manager coordinates, monitors and evaluates the delivery of services. The Village ISA provides educational counseling, employment assistance, housing advocacy and support, medication counseling, recovery and support services for people who are dually diagnosed and socialization. Services begin in the Homeless Assistance Program.
The agency also provides a Wellness Center to provide services and support to mental health clients who are in recovery and no longer need intensive mental health services. The Wellness Center provides self-help mental health support groups; peer to peer support groups; social/recreational activities; medication evaluation and support services; employment and education services, and integrated services and support for co-occurring disorders, such as substance abuse.
In addition the centers provide physical health screenings, and assistance with referrals to health care providers. The program also provides healthy living and health management education. Referrals are given for, housing possibilities, benefit maintenance and short term or crisis mental health services.
