Legislative Advocacy
Provider: SERVICE CENTER FOR INDEPENDENT LIFE
The agency provides services for people with disabilities of all ages who live in the Pomona and East San Gabriel Valley areas. Services include assistive technology information, acquisition assistance and equipment loan; attendant registries, benefits assistance, centers for independent living, disability related counseling, individual advocacy, legislative advocacy, peer counseling, prejob guidance, sign language interpretation, specialized information and referral, and transition services for students with disabilities. Geographic restrictions apply for all services.
An assistive technology coordinator can provide information about assistive equipment and resources for funding options for tools that will maintain or increase the ability to live a more independent lifestyle. Short and long-term loan of equipment such as iPads, wheelchairs, grab bars, wheelchair ramps, money readers, walkers and canes may be provided, depending on availability. Donations of assistive technology are also accepted.
Bi-weekly workshops to help people with disabilities develop resumes, interview skills, online profiles and general job preparation skills, are also available.
Transition services for students with disabilities, targeted to youth and young adults age 14 to 28, assists with post high school life planning, college and career planning, and employment skills training. Employment skills training include job application assistance, resume assistance, and interview skills training.
