Special Education (Hearing Loss)

The agency provides services for people with disabilities for children who are deaf or hard of hearing in Los Angeles County. Services include audiology, special education, speech and language pathology, and tutoring services. Services are restricted to children who are pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. There are no geographic restrictions.
Echo Center Program services include classes conducted with hearing children at Echo Horizon School which provides an enriched curriculum and teachers who are sensitive to the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students. The program operates during the school year.
The center offers auditory skills development, speech therapy to help children achieve natural voice quality, and individual tutorial assistance to help students maintain a level of progress which is consistent with that of their hearing classmates.

Application Procedure
Call to apply. An appointment is required. Interviews are usually scheduled within two weeks. Center staff review the child's records and also evaluate each applicant in person to determine his or her appropriateness for center programs. The waiting time to begin programs varies.
