Classroom Training
Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION - SUPPORT SERVICES OFFICE
The office provides WIOA programs for in-school and out-of-school adolescents in Los Angeles county. Services include classroom training, work maturity training, paid work experience, and paid limited internship training for adolescents and young adults, ages 14 to 21, who live in Los Angeles County.
Youth are referred by L A County Office of Education Alternative Education sites, L A County Probation officers and other school districts. Services are targeted to at-risk youth attending alternative schools in the county education system: offenders, pregnant minors, expelled students, dropouts, incarcerated and probation youth.
Placement is made in fields such as clerical, computer/data entry, health care services, food service, maintenance/groundskeeping, tutoring/child care, and retail sales. The length of the training program is 3 to 9 months, depending on which type of training is selected.
The L A County Youth Opportunities Project provides internship training under WIOA. Basic Skills training for academic enhancement of math and reading skills is provided. The program also provides ESL classes and GED preparation classes. All participants are enrolled in pre-employment training of 35 hours in such areas as aptitude assessment, career exploration, job search skills, and practice interviewing. Job search assistance is provided for students who are age and ability-ready. Participants are also registered in the EDD Youth Employment Opportunities Program. Support services include transportation, child care, counseling, clothing, nursing and referrals for special services.

Application Procedure
Call or walk in for information. Clients are usually referred by their school, the alternative school, the probation department or other social service agency. Applicants are required to bring proof of eligibility to the intake interview. Applicants must be receiving CalWorks or General Relief in order to qualify for services.
