Parenting Skills Classes

The agency provides family life education services for people in Los Angeles County. Services include family literacy programs; family support centers/outreach; parenting skills classes for new parents of children from birth to 18 months of age; court-ordered parenting classes, and parent/child activity groups. There are geographic restrictions for some programs.
The Nu Parent program provides parenting education for new parents and expectant parents by addressing child development and the physical and emotional needs of the newborn. The goal is to prevent child abuse and to provide support for new families.
Court-ordered parenting classes are available on a short term basis at various times throughout the year; this service is not always available. Participants receive certificates of completion and progress reports are provided to the court by request.
The agency provides a family resource center that assists parents with resources, referrals, parenting education, legal services, free tax information, financial literacy, employment skills, English as a Second Language classes, case management, holiday family events, and family enrichment programs. Home visits may be available.
Parent/child activity groups include periodic workshop sessions in which parents and their young children can explore the arts: art and crafts, music, drama. Call for information about classes.
