This state office provides access to the historical records of the State of California. Services includes archives for political records and government publications, research and special library collections. The office also administers an oral history program which documents state government policies through interviews with state government officials and others. There are no geographic restrictions.

Some of the more prominent archival collections include California Constitutions, Governor's Records, Legislative Resources, Spanish and Mexican Land Grants, Family History Resources, Robert F. Kennedy Assassination Investigation Records, Trademarks, Supreme and Appellate Courts Records, State Agencies and Constitutional Officers Records, Local Government Records, Oral Histories, and Photograph Collections.
