Adult day care services are tailored to adults with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, stroke victims, and other frail elderly. Health-related support groups, support groups for caregivers, and support groups for widows and widowers are available.
The center also provides peer counseling by trained volunteers and professional mental health services for older adults. In-home counseling is available for frail elderly and a friendly visitor program provides companionship for isolated seniors.
The Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP) provides support to unpaid caregivers caring for frail, elderly relatives, and to older adults providing care for younger family members. The program provides access to support services including respite care, caregiver training, support groups, and counseling.
The Long Term Care Ombudsman program provides advocacy for residents in long term care facilities (skilled nursing and assisted living). The Ombudsman investigates complaints and conducts preliminary abuse investigations in that setting.
A Public Benefits information line is available to help older adults with public benefits applications. Staff provide information and education, advocacy, screening, and application assistance for Medicare part D, Medicare Savings Program, Medi-Cal, CalFresh, HEAP and other utility discount programs.
The Senior ride program provides curb-to-curb transportation for older adults, age 60 and older and people with disabilities age 18 and older. Wheelchair lift equipped vans are available. It also provides alternative transportation resources, mobility education and hosts AARP Driver Safety Classes.
The Supportive Services Program (SSP) and Linkages program provide case management services for older adults age 60 and older and persons with disabilities to allow them to stay in their homes as long as appropriately possible and prevent premature or inappropriate institutionalization.
Information and referral is provided to anyone seeking information on a variety of resources for seniors.
Tax information includes information about federal and state income tax forms as well as assistance with rent rebates and property tax forms. Service is available to individuals 50 years and older who have low-incomes. Trained volunteers provide personal money management counseling for adults, age 55 and older, who reside in Santa Monica and the west Los Angeles area. Counselors meet with individuals to discuss budget planning, assist with bill paying and organize information for taxes.
Trained volunteers assist older adults with money management activities on a monthly basis. Services include bill paying, review of mail, reconciling check book and budgeting. Information is offered to help low income seniors finds and apply for help paying for prescription drugs, medical care, food and utilities.
