Services include adult education, adult high school diploma programs, English as a second language, GED instruction, parenting skills classes, parent/child activity groups and vocational education. There are no geographic restrictions.
Adult education services give students the opportunity to improve their basic reading, writing and math skills. The students study at their own pace and according to their ability.
GED instruction services provide continuous enrollment and students study individually during three hour class periods for the state GED tests.
The high school diploma program is a nine-week structured classroom curriculum. Classes are one hour long, and students can attend either Monday through Friday during the day or twice a week at night. To graduate, a student must pass the state proficiency exam.
The center allows currently enrolled high school students to attend the high school diploma program in order to make up credits or to graduate early; earned credits are sent to their respective high schools.
Supportive services include job placement services, a vocational learning laboratory, tutoring, health and child care services. Health and child care services are available for center students. The center has facilities to provide child care during class hours for students' children age two and one half to five.
The program also offers personal counseling as a supportive service for students; the focus may include family problems, social problems and readjusting to being in school. In addition, a part-time counselor is available to work with students who have mild learning disabilities and who are functioning at a below average level.
Parenting skills development classes focus on building confidence in parents and includes education on child growth and development, nutrition, discipline, communication, and child care. Classes are six to 16 weeks long coinciding with school semesters; there are no summer classes offered. Year-round enrollment is accepted. LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH Parenting skills development classes are provided in English only.
