Prejob Guidance
Provider: PASADENA CITY COLLEGE - NONCREDIT DIVISION
The center provides employment services and short-term vocational training for adults, age 18 and older, who live in the San Gabriel Valley. There are no geographic restrictions.
Vocational training consists of open ended classes in which the student advances at his or her own pace and is periodically evaluated by an instructor. Classes meet daily for three hours. When the student and the instructor feel the student is ready, and the student meets course requirements, he or she has completed the course; the average attendance is 16 weeks. The following courses are available: cosmetology, electronic assembly, retail service associate program, key data entry, clerical and secretarial, and drapery and sewing technology.
The center also offers a variety of supportive services for its students and alumni which include job placement services, a vocational learning laboratory, and tutoring. Job placement counselors help students to develop interviewing, resume writing and job skills and then refer them to prospective employers. In addition, information about employment opportunities is posted on a job board which is for use by both the Skills Center and Pasadena City College (PCC) students.
The Learning Assistance Center offers tapes, videos, and written materials which supplement all the classes at the center and help students with their learning skills. Students can also make an appointment for tutoring through the lab with retired teachers and other educated adults who volunteer their services.
