Parent Support Groups
Provider: JEFFREY FOUNDATION - SPECIAL CHILD AND FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER
The agency provides services for people with disabilities for children who have development or multiple disabilities in Los Angeles County. Services include advocacy, early intervention for children with disabilities/delays, extended day care, in person crisis intervention, parent support groups, preschools, and specialized information and referral. There are no geographic restrictions.
Services are targeted to children with muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, Down's Syndrome, and autism; as well as victims of abuse, crippling accidents, sight, speech, and hearing impediments or in utero drug exposure.
Services include infant intervention for babies from birth to two years, early intervention for toddlers age two to three years; early education for children age three to six years; after-school program for children from six to 14 years; a high school after-school program for youth age 14 to 21 years; summer day camp; and family support services.
The early intervention program teaches young children learning skills and fosters developmental progress in gross and fine motor skills, language, social skills and appropriate behavior.
The early education, school age and high school after-school day care programs offer age-appropriate educational, recreational and therapeutic activities to develop each child's independence and self-esteem. Programming includes vocational skills, arts and crafts, and grooming and daily living skills.
Full day camp during school closures includes the same activities as the after-school programs with additional field trips and recreational activities.
Family support services include parent, male parent and sibling support groups; home visits; crisis counseling; advocacy and social activities and referrals to additional resources.
