MALIBU CITY HALL REOPENING ANNOUNCEMENT

Malibu City Hall is now open by appointment only.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY RECOVERS

The Los Angeles County Recovers page offers guidance on how FEMA and Los Angeles County departments can assist residents and businesses impacted by LA County wildfires. It will also provide updates on available Local Assistance Centers and Disaster Recovery Centers. 

DISASTER RESOURCE CENTERS

Disaster Recovery Centers will open to the public seven days a week from 9:00am to 8:00pm (new hours beginning 2/10 are 9:00am to 7:00pm) at the following locations:

  • UCLA Research Park West - 10850 West Pico Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90064
  • Altadena Disaster Recovery Center - 540 W Woodbury Rd. Altadena, CA 91101

The Recovery Center will support individuals with the following:

  • Lost vital records (birth certificates, death certificates, driver’s licenses, social security documentation) 
  • Disaster relief for people with homes and businesses lost or damaged by the fire.
  • Provide referrals for mental health counseling and other services.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE EVENTS

FEMA and SBA representatives will be stationed at the following store locations to offer direct support between 9AM to 5PM until Saturday, February 8, 2025:

  • Food 4 Less: 1329 N Lake Ave, Pasadena, CA 91104 *hot meals will also be provided at this location.
  • Ralphs: 910 Lincoln Blvd, Venice, CA 90291
  • Ralphs: 23841 Malibu Rd, Malibu, CA 90265

FEMA will be providing information and resources for individuals and families impacted by the fires, while the SBA will assist affected businesses, homeowners and renters with financial guidance and recovery support.

ALTADENA WELLNESS EVENT

World Food Bank Community Health Workers will be providing a wellness event for community members. Please bring a shopping bag to collect free items such as canned goods, snacks, water, and clothing. Information and application assistance for benefits including disaster relief services will also be available. Priority will be given to seniors, people with disabilities and families with children 5 & under.

EATON FIRE RESOURCE FAIR

NAACP and local organizations will be providing resources for communities impacted by the recent wildfires including housing information, legal assistance, insurance claims support and more.

LA COUNTY RELIEF: FUNDING & RESOURCE PORTAL

The LA County Relief: Funding & Resource Portal hosts a range of funds dedicated to supporting first responders, offering housing assistance, providing relief for small businesses and workers, and removing barriers for students and communities.

People interested in donating are encouraged to scroll through the various organizations to find one—or more—to support as we work together to rebuild lives, strengthen communities and recover stronger and safer than before.

Better Angels Emergency Assistance Fund: Applications are available for low-income families who earn below 50% area median income and who have lost their homes due to the 2025 LA wildfires. Proof of address is required.

PUBLIC HEALTH INFORMATION AND MEDICATION ASSISTANCE

Los Angeles County Dept of Public Health has Fire Safety and Health Information available on their website, including information about the local health emergency declaration, prescription medication assistance, Teladoc health services, safely cleaning fire damaged homes, and tips for protecting your health after a fire.

Local assistance centers will provide medication assistance services starting Tuesday, January 14, to assist residents in need of prescription medications. 

Walgreens pharmacists may dispense emergency medication refills for most medications without prescriber authorization during a declared emergency. A store locator is available on the website.

The Emergency Prescription Assistance Program (EPAP) is a federal initiative managed by the Department of Health and Human Services and designed for individuals without any form of health insurance. Eligible individuals can receive prescription refills, vaccines, medical supplies (including diabetic supplies), and durable medical equipment (such as canes, walkers, wheelchairs and crutches) at no cost.

EPAP has been activated for Los Angeles County through March 15, 2025. Prescriptions may be filled at any EPAP-enrolled pharmacy nationwide.

VITAL AND PROPERTY RECORDS ACCESS

LA County residents directly impacted by fires can request property and vital records free of charge to help with recovery efforts. Call 800-201-8999 and select option 1, followed by option 2. Or email recorder@rrcc.lacounty.gov for assistance. 

DMV DOCUMENTS REPLACEMENT

Californians impacted by the Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, Lidia and Woodley Fires in Los Angeles and Ventura counties who lost their DMV documents in the wildfire, or are late in renewing, may be eligible for waived fees.

For information about requesting replacement documents online, in-person at a DMV office, or in-person at a Disaster Recovery Center, please visit DMV assistance for those impacted by CA wildfires.

CHILDCARE RESOURCES

All YMCA locations are offering free childcare for children of first responders, essential workers and children of families who were displaced, evacuated, or lost property, or cannot attend school because their school has temporarily closed. Children must be at least 4 years and 9 months and must be in grades TK through 8th. Space is limited; visit YMCA Childcare for information and to register.

CALFRESH DISASTER RESPONSE

CalFresh Benefits are now available for impacted areas of the LA County Wildfires.

INFORMATION FOR IMMIGRANTS

Los Angeles County Office of Immigrant Affairs

Emergency/disaster assistance is NOT considered in the public charge test. Receiving emergency aid – including food, shelter, medical assistance, and temporary financial support – will not impact the future immigration relief applications of the recipient or their household members.

FEDERAL DISASTER ASSISTANCE

FEMA has declared a disaster for California Wildfires and Straight-Line Winds and provides information about the Survivors' Road to Recovery (available in multiple languages). Start an application for disaster assistance at disasterassistance.gov or by calling (800) 621-3362. Calls are accepted every day from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. PST. Claims can be made for damage and one-time financial assistance to help with cleanup.

FEMA PUBLIC ASSISTANCE for PRIVATE NON-PROFITS & FAITH-BASED ORGANIZATIONS

Private nonprofits and faith-based groups impacted by the Los Angeles County Wildfires may be eligible for Public Assistance to help restore their damaged or destroyed facilities. To apply, submit a Request for Public Assistance (RPA) by Sunday, March 9, 2025

FEMA advises organizations to apply to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for a low-interest disaster loan.

RED CROSS CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The Red Cross California Wildfires Financial Assistance program provides financial help for individuals whose primary residence was located within the fire perimeters of Eaton, Palisades, Hurst and Kenneth, as defined by Cal OES.

To see if you qualify for financial assistance, please complete and submit this registration form (one per household). The Red Cross will contact you using the information provided in the form.

Receiving Red Cross financial assistance does not make you ineligible for FEMA assistance, and FEMA approval is not required to be eligible for Red Cross financial assistance. Red Cross financial assistance is not a loan and does not need to be repaid.

Individuals must COMPLETE THEIR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE APPLICATION by February 14, 2025.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR MILITARY FAMILIES

The American Red Cross, in partnership with Military Aid Societies, provides financial assistance (grants or loans) to eligible applicants. Assistance can include funds for emergency travel, burials, emergency food and shelter, or other emergency-related needs.

To be eligible, an individual must be:

  • an active duty service member, or
  • a member of an activated National Guard or Reserve unit, or
  • an immediate family member of a service member in the above two categories, or
  • a military retiree or spouse/widower of a retiree

  • State and Federal Taxes: The IRS has announced that victims of the California wildfires that began on January 7, 2025, now have until October 15, 2025, to file various individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. Governor Newsom has announced a postponement on filing 2024 tax returns that would have been due between January 7th and October 15th, 2025. The CA Franchise Tax Board will provide state disaster tax relief for affected taxpayers and businesses.
  • USPS Mail Service: Several USPS locations within the areas affected by fires have relocated their retail and delivery operations. Residents in these affected areas can pick up their mail at the new locations or submit an Official Mail Forwarding Change of Address Order to reroute their mail. SUPPLIES DISTRIBUTION 

The city of Los Angeles has announced the availability of N95 masks to help residents protect themselves from hazardous air conditions. Residents can collect N95 masks at Los Angeles Public libraries, recreation centers, and senior centers. Please visit your local shelter or disaster assistance center for available supplies. 

Vista Del Mar is hosting a Fire Relief Drive Through Supply Giveaway January 25th from 11:00am to 3:00pm at 3200 Motor Ave., Los Angeles. Event will distribute hot food and disaster relief supplies. Proof of fire affected residence required. See vistadelmar.org for details. 

MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES

MISFORTUNE AND CALAMITY PROPERTY TAX RELIEF

*Reminder: 2nd installment of property tax bills are due February 1st, 2025 unless tax relief is applied for.* Residents may be eligible for tax relief for property damaged or destroyed by a calamity, such as fire or flooding. To qualify, file an Application for Reassessment: Property Damaged or Destroyed by Misfortune or Calamity (M&C) Form ADS-820 with the Assessor’s Office within 12 months from the date the property was damaged or destroyed. The loss must exceed $10,000 of current market value.
