An emerging Alliance plans to supplement County disaster response efforts through cross-sector collaborations
LOS ANGELES, CA – February 2, 2026 – 211 LA is spearheading a new crisis response collaboration as Los Angeles commemorates one year since the end of the devastating January wildfires. At the local nonprofit’s wildfire anniversary event, it announced the 211 LA Crisis Care Plan Alliance: a proactive, unifying effort designed to strengthen how Los Angeles County prepares for, responds to, and recovers from future crises. The Alliance’s founding members include Airbnb.org—a central 211 LA collaborator that helped connect nearly 24,000 people with free temporary housing—and Falck.
The Alliance brings together public agencies, nonprofit providers, private-sector partners, and donors to improve coordination before, during, and long after disasters strike. By developing this infrastructure, wildfire survivors and survivors of future crises will receive timely, personalized, and sustained support.
“Recovery doesn’t end when immediate needs like housing are met,” said Maribel Marin, executive director of 211 LA. “The reality is that disasters are an ongoing part of life in Los Angeles County and we have to be prepared. Coordination matters. This Alliance is about strengthening our relationships and communication together so survivors never have to navigate recovery alone.”
Unlike traditional emergency response structures, the Alliance has committed to evolving as new partners join. By shaping response strategies collaboratively rather than dictated by a single organization, 211 LA and its partners aim to enable more holistic, responsive care personalized for each survivor throughout future recovery processes.
“At Falck, advancing sustainable healthcare means connecting people to the right care and resources at the right time,” said Lyle Hanson, Managing Director of Falck’s L.A. County operation. “Our participation in the 211 Alliance expands our ability to support people beyond EMS and ambulance care and contribute to a healthier, more resilient community.”
The Alliance does not replace existing county emergency systems. 211 LA remains contracted by the County of Los Angeles and is activated during major disasters by the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management. The Alliance is also not funded through tax revenue; instead, it is supported through monetary and in-kind contributions from participating partners. To ensure transparency, the Alliance will be externally audited, with outcomes and improvements communicated publicly.
“211 LA was at the center of the response, the front door to recovery,” shared California Community Foundation President and CEO Miguel A. Santana at the event. “When everything felt uncertain, they offered what people needed most: a calm voice, clear information, and reassurance that someone cared. Now more than ever, 211 is essential. It protects the most vulnerable—and quite literally—saves lives.”
As Los Angeles enters year two of the wildfire recovery, the stories of Angelenos’ resilience and rebuilding efforts continue to rise to the top. Attendees of last week’s event received Not Forgotten: The Data & Stories of Recovery from the 2025 Los Angeles Wildfires, a new report from 211 LA detailing response and recovery outcomes one year later, and watched the premiere of From Crisis to Care: A Story of Partnership and Recovery, a short film by Telly Award-winning filmmaker Art Simon documenting the journeys of two Altadena families rebuilding their lives with the help of 211 LA.
“We’re proud that we could work together to provide a home away from home for so many families during a difficult time,” said Airbnb.org Global Head of Programs and Operations Christine Chang to attendees at the January 20 event. “We’re glad to see 211 LA launching the Crisis Care Plan Alliance, and Airbnb.org is proud to be part of it. In a crisis, people need to know the one place to call to get the help they need, where they can get access to a whole network of support.”
