The agency acts as liaison between the City, the County of County of Los Angeles and the California State Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in a local disaster. It is also responsible for providing information to the public through the media. In a countywide or broader disaster, the city recognizes the County as the Operational Area.
In the event of a local emergency, the agency provides public information to broadcast and print media, such as emergency phone numbers and information about the location of temporary shelters and disaster assistance centers for immediate services and long term assistance.
