Debt/overspending support groups services include a 12 step program that addresses low income earnings, self-deprivation, compulsive spending, and hoarding in an effort to help individuals recover from compulsive indebtedness. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop incurring unsecured debt. The agency also assists people who are interested in starting new DA groups.
The organization utilizes abstinence, meetings, phone support, maintaining records of daily expenses, meetings to review and formulate individual spending plans, a sponsor system, and literature to assist people in the recovery process. Anonymity is stressed; members share first names only. In addition, members exchange phone numbers and provide a support system for each other.
