Money Management (Chronic/Severe Mental Illness)

Provider: MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA OF LOS ANGELES - ANTELOPE VALLEY SERVICES

Services and hours may be affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Please call the agency for more information.

This program provides mental health services for individuals age 18 and older with severe and persistent mental illness who are in the Antelope Valley area. Services include benefits advocacy, psychiatric case management, community mental health education, housing search assistance, independent living skills instruction, money management, mental health support groups, parenting classes, psychiatric resocialization, and specialized information and referral. Age restrictions apply for some services; there are no geographic restrictions.

The agency serves as a social rehabilitation center for people who have psychiatric disabilities. The social program at the administrative site provides a combination of case management services, structured workshops and 12-step support group meetings. Workshops focus on independent living skills in such areas as money management, cooking, creativity and self-esteem.

Services provided in the Transitional Age Youth Program are specifically designed for young adults, age 18 through 24, with severe mental illness, including former foster youth. Staff provide case management, money management skills, parenting classes, psychosocial rehabilitation, and recreational activities. Parenting classes are not for court-ordered individuals.

The agency recruits and trains volunteers to work with people who are mentally ill. It provides for the interagency coordination of recreational and resocialization programs in the Antelope Valley area. Advisory groups for consumers of mental health services are also available.
