Sign Language Interpreter Registries
Provider: CITY OF LOS ANGELES DEPARTMENT ON DISABILITY
The office provides services for people of all ages with disabilities in the city of Los Angeles. Services include ADA implementation assistance, individual advocacy for people with disabilities, mediation on disability issues, a sign language interpreter registry, and specialized information and referral for services related to disabilities. There are no geographic restrictions.
The office provides assistive aids, services and medical equipment. Auxiliary Aids and Services include, but are not limited to: qualified readers; taped texts; audio recording; braille and large print materials; or other effective methods of making written and visually represented information accessible to individuals with visual impairments on City related meetings, public hearings, and special events.
Durable medical equipment may be available for residents to use in-home at no charge. Items may include wheelchairs, rollators, canes, shower benches and raised toilet seats. Priority is given to people experiencing homelessness and those with limited income.
The agency accepts complaints and grievances on ADA compliance within the City of Los Angeles, particularly in accessibility of City services and buildings. It provides mediation services between landlords and tenants, consumers and businesses, and between citizens and public entities on disability issues.
The agency also takes requests for sign language interpreters for attendance at city meetings or other public gatherings. Arrangements must be requested in 72 hours in advance.
