Behavior Modification

The agency provides family life education services primarily for San Gabriel Valley residents from five locations. Services include family communication skills, group counseling, parenting skills development and juvenile delinquency prevention programs. Geographic, income and age restrictions apply for some programs.

Services include a family communication skills program and a child abuse and neglect prevention and intervention program. The sessions are designed to enhance family communication to strengthen the family unit and prevent substance abuse. The family communication skills program is called Windows/Ventanas. The sessions meet court-ordered parenting class requirements. Groups of families attend weekly sessions for seven weeks and participate in structured discussions and activities with other families as well as their own.

The sessions are interactive and include role-playing, videos, games, visual aids, and opportunities to practice new skills. The sessions focus on barriers to communication, listening skills, assertiveness, needs and priorities, values conflicts, decision-making, problem-solving, goal-setting, anger management, and building a positive home atmosphere. All family members age 10 and older are welcome. While many families are referred to this program by community agencies because of the delinquent behavior of a young person age 10 to 18, any family may apply. Families may repeat the program if it would be beneficial.

CLARO - Challenging Latinos to Access Resource Opportunities is a school based program focusing on positive role modeling and support groups for high-risk male youth.
