For more than 45 years, 211 LA has helped Los Angeles County residents navigate their toughest daily life challenges, from finding safe shelter to accessing food for their families. This commitment to community support became even more vital during the recent wildfires that struck Los Angeles.

The destruction was widespread. According to the 211 LA After Action Report, by January 31st, more than 6,800 structures were damaged or destroyed in the Pacific Palisades, and an additional 10,491 structures were damaged or destroyed near Eaton Canyon by January 31.

Within the first 20 days, 211 LA had:

  • Managed three simultaneous disaster activations.
  • Registered over 51,000 households for wildfire-related assistance, representing 107,893 adults, 35,744 children, 4,661 infants, and 36,294 pets.
  • Placed more than 17,000 households in alternate evacuation housing, leveraging partnerships with Airbnb.org and Hilton to ensure safe, non-congregate sheltering options.
  • Built a care coordination program from the ground up, launching with no dedicated staff at activation.

Building this support system was not without challenges. At the time, 211 LA had general organization procedures and protocols in place, but no formal internal system dedicated specifically to disaster recovery care coordination. Thanks to the quick work and dedication of our team, we developed a Care Coordination Fire Recovery Program within 48 hours, which has supported over 7,000 households in their recovery journey.
The true impact of our rapid progress is best illustrated by the people we serve. We are honored to share the story of the Quiroz Family. This family of six is currently rebuilding their intergenerational home in Altadena following the recent wildfires.
