Halloween Safety Tips for Children:

  • Walk Together: Children who are trick-or-treating should always walk in a group with friends, family members, or a trusted parent/guardian.
  • Cross Safety: Always cross streets at corners, avoid crossing between parked cars, and look both ways before stepping onto the road.
  • Stay Visible: Always wear reflective gear, light-up shoes, and have a flashlight to maximize your visibility.
  • Costume Safety: Ensure that all costumes, wigs, and accessories are flame-resistant. Staying away from open flames such as candles or jack-o’-lanterns.

Halloween Safety Tips for Parents:

  • Plan the Route: Before going trick-or-treating, parents should talk with their child about their route in advance and make sure to avoid any busy streets.
  • Fire Prevention: Provide your children with glow sticks or battery-operated candles in pumpkins instead of candles that emit real flames.
  • Contact Card: Create a safety card with your child’s name, address, and phone number, and keep it securely in your child's pocket in case of an emergency.
  • Check Treats First: Children should wait until they get home before eating any candy, so parents can make sure all treats are commercially wrapped and free from tampering.

Halloween Safety Tips for Everyone:

  • Animal Safety: Candy, especially dark chocolate, should be kept out of reach of pets, as both the sweets and their wrappers can be hazardous or cause choking.
  • Drive with Caution: When driving on Halloween night, stay alert for pedestrians, especially younger children, who may run out into the streets unpredictably.
  • Homeowner Safety: During nighttime, leave all exterior lights on throughout the night to help deter vandalism.
  • Safe Ride Home: If attending a Halloween party, be sure to have a designated driver or use a ride-sharing service to get home safely. For your safety and others, please do not drink and drive.
