Situation background

On June 17, a fire broke out on the roof of the Lineage Cold Storage facility in Boyle Heights. Rooftop solar panels fueled the blaze, sending heavy black smoke across Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, Montebello, Commerce, and surrounding areas. Shifting winds have continued to spread smoke day and night, affecting air quality across much of LA County. Firefighters have worked to contain the fire, though flares have continued to produce smoke over several days.
