This agency provides legal and educational services for people in the creative arts and arts organizations in Southern California. These services include Arts Arbitration and Mediation Services (AAMS); a lawyer referral service; a law library; educational workshops and seminars; and a membership program. There are no geographic restrictions.
The Arts Arbitration and Mediation Services (AAMS) program offers arbitration, mediation, conciliation and other alternative dispute resolution services as a way for people to resolve their disputes in a confidential and informal way, outside of the legal system. AAMS has helped parties solve a wide variety conflicts including contract, landlord-tenant, family and copyright and royalty disputes as well as intangible artistic issues and oral disagreements.
The Lawyer Referral Service matches those in the creative community with attorneys through a state bar certified referral program, including pro bono and modest-means placement. Through the California Inventors Assistance Program, the agency also offers a pro bono referral service for qualified inventors and small businesses to obtain legal assistance in filing patents.
Lawyer Referral Service Referral Panel Membership is open to qualified members of the California Bar.
Several educational workshops and CLE programs for attorneys are held each month; topics may include and relate to copyright, trademark, and co-authorship issues. The organization membership program provides reduced fees for education programs. LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH Spanish or other languages depend on availability.
