Adoption Records
Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT - JUVENILE DEPENDENCY COURT
The court provides adoption services and adoption records information. Persons seeking records must file a petition with the court. The judge will then make a ruling whether to make the requested adoption information available. There is an approximate four to eight month processing period after requests are submitted as the request must be coordinated with the State Department of Social Services Office and Vital Records Office in Sacramento. If the parents choose to remain anonymous, their identities will not be released.
There are two types of petitions, one for medical history information, called a "Petition for Birth Record Information%u201D pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 102705. The second is to request adoption records unrelated to family medical background. The petitioner should request an "Application and Order of Approval of the Court to Obtain Information Regarding an Adoption" pursuant to Family Code Section 9200. If adoption information is found, a copy of the original adoption order (Adopt 215), adoption agreement (Adopt 210), and request for adoption form (Adopt 200) will be given to the petitioner.
