Hunger/Poverty Action Groups

The agency provides legal services to individuals in Los Angeles County and through California. Services include advocacy and hunger/poverty action groups. There are no geographic restrictions.

Legal services include advocacy, legal consultation and technical assistance for public interest law firms such as Legal Aid, and a specialized litigation unit which pursues issues that impact low-income people as a group. The agency does not provide legal services for individuals.

The center pursues cases through the judicial system which deal with complex legal issues and which demand an investment of time and attention that neighborhood legal centers cannot provide. The types of issues which may be handled by the agency include those which relate to health and mental health care, housing, court access, and public assistance. Individual cases which represent inequities in these or related areas may be pursued to establish precedents, often on a class action basis.
