General Counseling Services
Provider: VISTA DEL MAR CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES - REISS-DAVIS CHILD STUDY CENTER
The agency provides counseling services for children and adolescents, and young adults age 0 to 25 who are experiencing emotional, social, behavioral, or learning problems or AD/HD and their families and live primarily, in the West Los Angeles area. It also provides a graduate training for mental health professionals, and a special parenting education program for families dealing with divorce. There are no geographic restrictions for services.
Services include psychological, educational and developmental assessment; individual psychotherapy for children, adolescents and young adults; counseling for parents and families; child guidance for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder which includes comprehensive evaluation and treatment for children who have learning problems and AD/HD. The modalities utilized may include short or long-term psychotherapy, crisis family counseling, short term therapy and group therapy and psychological testing. The program accepts court-ordered individuals.
The agency also provides parenting skills development and co-parenting workshops for divorcing parents called Keeping Kids First. The class is provided every 6 weeks, throughout the year. Training programs are also available for mental health professionals. The agency also provides access to the Victim's Assistance Program; call for information.
Supportive services include psychiatric medication evaluation and treatment; and neuro-feedback training as an alternative or addition to medication, for children who are diagnosed with ADHD, depression or anxiety.
