Homeless Drop In Centers
Provider: ANGELUS INN - SRO HOUSING CORPORATION
SRO Housing Corporation provides low-cost housing for homeless and low-income adults 18 years and older who are in the Skid Row area, including people who receive public assistance. GR/DPSS vouchers and Section 8 are accepted at some residential facilities. The program renovates and manages residential facilities which provide emergency, transitional and permanent single-room-occupancy (SRO) units. Some residences specifically serve chronically mentally ill adults; seniors 60 years and older; veterans; people living with HIV/AIDS and substance abusers. Case management services are provided for these special-needs populations. All single adults who are 18 years and older and who meet the income requirements are eligible. Services are provided in the downtown Skid Row area of Los Angeles. There are no geographic restrictions.
The Shelter Plus Care Program provides Section 8 housing for people who are homeless and who have a disability. Disabilities may include HIV/AIDS, mental illness, and substance abuse with six months sobriety. Shelter Plus Care does not provide immediate housing; there is usually a wait list of 2 or 3 months.
The Short-Term Emergency Programs are located at the Russ Hotel. They provide for private housing units, along with a full range of case management services. Other services include money management, food services, life skills classes, referrals to transitional and permanent housing and notices of community events.
The Transitional Programs include housing for homeless people who are recovering from substance abuse; the Veterans Transitional Program; and an HIV/AIDS Transitional Program. The Marshal House transitional units are furnished and include a refrigerator; some units include a kitchenette and private bathroom. These programs provide shared kitchen facilities; bathroom and communal shower facilities. Additional support services are also provided.
The permanent facilities have units with bathrooms and kitchenettes.
