Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY REGISTRAR - RECORDER / COUNTY CLERK - EAST LOS ANGELES
The department issues and maintains records and licenses for people in Los Angeles County. Services include filings for business DBAs, fictitious business names, domestic partner registries, lands deeds/titles, vital records, real estate documents and miscellaneous statutory filings for Los Angeles County. The department also conducts civil marriages. There are no geographic restrictions.
The office maintains records of land deeds and property ownership records. Through the LA County Department of Consumer Affairs Homeowner Notification Program, this office mails out copies of documents recorded against homes so homeowners can review them for legitimacy. Information about where to call for help with false documents is provided.
Birth, death, and marriage records may need to be ordered, and are not always available on a same-day basis.
Marriage license applicants must be consenting adults or minors who have parental and court consent. Couples who live together may request a confidential marriage license.
A lay person may apply to become a deputy commissioner of civil marriage for a one-time only marriage ceremony. To be deputized the person must submit a written request for this privilege and attend a swearing in ceremony. The marriage must be performed within 3 months of being sworn in.
The domestic partner registry is intended to assist unmarried adult couples applying for domestic partnership benefits from employers. Couples wishing to register must be both 18 years of age or older and at least one partner must reside or work within Los Angeles County.
