Emancipation of Minors

Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES AND PROBATION DEPARTMENT - YOUTH DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DIVISION

The program provides youth services for current and former foster youth ages 16 through 21 in Los Angeles County. Services include emancipation of minors, supervised living for older youth, including young adults to age 21, ward of the court verification and undesignated financial aid. Information about extended foster care benefits for eligible foster children is also available. Age restrictions apply; there are no geographic restrictions.

The Independent Living Program helps youth transition successfully to life after foster care. The program provides financial assistance to current and former foster/probation youth. Assistance may be available in areas such as education, employment, transportation, and transitional housing. Information about extended foster care benefits is also available.

Staff provide information and referral, employment resources, transportation funds, educational assistance, housing referrals, mental health service referrals, and special events.
