Oil Recycling
The agency provides hazardous waste disposal locations for residents and qualified small businesses of the City and County of Los Angeles. Services include hazardous materials roundups, medication disposal, sharps disposal programs and oil recycling. The sites are called S.A.F.E. Centers (Solvents/Automotive/Flammables/Electronics) and are open to the public (City of Los Angeles and County of Los Angeles residents) for the safe disposal of Household Hazardous Waste. There are no geographic restrictions.
The sites can accept aerosol cans; anti-freeze; auto batteries; auto filters; automotive fluids; cleaning products; fluorescent bulbs; garden chemicals; household batteries; all medications except controlled substances; home generated sharps such as syringes, needles and lancets in sealed containers; paint; motor oil; and pool chemicals.
The sites also accept the following e-waste items: cables, cell phones, computers, electronic toys, microwaves, monitors, network equipment, radios, stereos, telephones, televisions, and VCR's.
Hazardous waste from small businesses that qualify for the Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator (CESQG) Program are accepted at select sites by appointment only.
The sites cannot accept ammunition; explosives; biological/medical waste; bulky items like furniture and large appliances; business waste; paper; radioactive materials; tires; marine flares/firecrackers and software.
The collection sites will only accept 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste. It should be packed properly to prevent spilling or tipping of waste during transportation.
