Volunteer Opportunities (Older Adults)

The center provides services for adults age 50 and older who reside in Norwalk and surrounding communities. Services include blood pressure screening, case/care management, certificates/forms assistance, congregate meals, in home assistance registries, recreational activities/sports, social clubs/events, senior centers, specialized information and referral, volunteer opportunities, and welfare rights assistance. There are geographic restrictions for some services.
The program provides information and referral for all types of services which are provided by private, city, and other agencies which may be of interest to seniors.
The program also provides assistance in completing forms for various benefits, assistance with filing for tax rebates and advocacy when needed to obtain government benefits like SSI and Medicare.
The Supportive Services Program (SSP) provides case management services for residents of Norwalk who are frail elderly, age 60 or older, who are at risk for institutionalization to help them remain in their homes with the support of various coordinated services.
A homechore registry program which maintains a list of pre-screened contractors and are interested in working for seniors is also available. The agency also offers homemaking/personal care service for a limited basis for seniors that are age and income eligible (at no cost to the client and/or family); home visitation by staff.
The center also provides blood pressure checks as well as other health screenings.
Recreational activities include bingo, movies, dances, exercise classes, seminars, craft classes, tours and a weekday nutrition program. The facility has a lounge, computer lab, exercise equipment and a billiards room.
