Vendor Certification
The service administers the nutrition assistance programs of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Its mission is to provide children and needy families better access to food and a more healthful diet through its food assistance programs and comprehensive nutrition education efforts. There are no geographic restrictions.
The service administers the Child and Adult Care Food Program, the CalFresh Program, Homeless Children Nutrition Program, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) which distributes surplus food to food banks.
This field office accepts and screens applications from food retailers who wish to accept CalFresh. It has the authority to examine retailers records and to revoke eligibility from retailers for rules violations. It accepts complaints from the public about retailers. People who wish to receive CalFresh apply to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services.
