Food Sorting/Packing Volunteer Opportunities
Provider: RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM - ALL PEOPLES COMMUNITY CENTER
The program provides volunteer opportunities for adults, age 55 and older who live in Bell, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Lynwood, South Central Los Angeles, South Gate and Watts. Services include advocacy/ombudsman volunteer opportunities, food sorting/packing volunteer opportunities, meal preparation/serving volunteer opportunities, and volunteer recruitment/placement. Services are restricted to cities of Bell, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Lynwood, South Central Los Angeles, South Gate and Watts.
Volunteer recruitment/placement services include an assessment of the volunteer's interests, expertise and available hours and placement in an appropriate public or private, non-profit agency. Agencies who wish to recruit volunteers to use in their programs may call the agency and place a request.
Food sorting/packing volunteers work in the agency's emergency supplemental food program. Volunteers help bag, register and hand out food to low-income families.
Individual/group advocacy volunteers work in community advocacy.
Meal preparation/serving volunteers help prepare and serve hot congregational meals, once a year.
The agency in which the volunteer is placed may provide on-the-job training while the volunteer is on duty. The agency may complete background checks and fingerprint clearance on volunteers who work with children. Volunteers who request reimbursement from the agency for expenses or mileage must present government issued identification (drivers license, ID card, passport, etc.). If this agency places a volunteer with another non-profit agency, that agency may have different volunteer requirements. The agency provides supplemental insurance while the volunteer is on duty.
