The agency provides service for older adults targeted to low income seniors age 60 and older who have a legal need. Services include legal counseling, printed materials, and specialized information and referral. There are no geographic restrictions.
The LAWS Project (Legal Aid for the Welfare of Seniors) coordinates with Los Angeles City to provide City LAWS and with the county to provide County LAWS. Services are provided primarily at senior multipurpose center sites; people who are unable to travel to the sites may be seen in their homes.
The Traditional Legal Assistance Program (TLAP) provides free legal advice and representation to older individuals age 60 and older and their caregivers with limited income or resources. There is no income requirement to receive services.
The agency's Nursing Home Advocacy Project focuses on the specific legal needs of low income people who live in nursing homes or board and care homes and their families. The services include providing information about and referral to resources that people who live in community care facilities and their families may need; and legal counseling about and representation in matters that relate to long term care, board and care, alternatives to institutionalization, health issues, and public benefits.
