The commission enforces federal consumer protection and antitrust laws including those which ban unfair and deceptive business practices such as the fraudulent telemarketing of products and investments, and false or misleading advertising.
The commission also enforces federal credit statutes such as the Truth in Lending, Fair Credit Reporting, Equal Credit Opportunity and Fair Debt Collection Practices Acts; laws against identity theft, price-fixing and illegal boycotts; and rules which govern mail orders, door-to-door sales, care labeling and the sale of used cars.
