Provider: ANTELOPE VALLEY MOSQUITO AND VECTOR CONTROL DISTRICT
The agency provides public health services for residents who live in the Lancaster and Palmdale. Services include mosquito control and public awareness/education. There are geographic restrictions.
Surveillance of vector-borne diseases consist of controlling mosquitoes which can cause St. Louis Encephalitis, Western Equine Encephalomyelitis and West Nile Virus. The agency monitors the mosquitoes by trapping and testing adult mosquitoes.
Vector control uses biological and chemical measures to control mosquitoes. This may include removing standing water, use of mosquito fish and chemical treatment of water as needed.
Public awareness and community education includes presentations at schools, community groups, fairs, festivals and businesses; and providing pamphlets, brochures and workbooks.
