Blood Pressure Screening
Provider: CITY OF POMONA COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT - SENIOR ADULT SERVICES
The program provides a variety of services for adults 50 years and older who live in the Pomona Valley. Services include adoption and foster/kinship care support groups, bereavement support groups, blood pressure screenings, case/care management, federal income tax information, legal counseling for adults 60 years and over, Medicare information/counseling, recreational/leisure/arts instruction, senior centers, senior ride programs, and specialized information and referral for older adult issues. Age and geographic restrictions apply to some programs.
Staff provide specialized information and referral for community services for older adults, including local housing referrals. In addition, case management services are provided by appointment. Health services include blood pressure screenings and other health screenings that are periodically offered at the two senior centers. Legal services are also available at the centers by appointment only. The legal program is provided by Bet Tzedek. Services are restricted to low-income seniors, age 60 and older. Income tax assistance is offered, seasonally, for older adults, age 55 and older, who need help filling out their federal and state income tax forms.
Tri-City Mental Health Services provides a grief loss support group.
Senior recreational activities include arts and crafts, dance, exercise, and recreational activity classes; a lawn bowling league, which meets three days a week. Transportation is available for senior residents of Pomona for scheduled center activities.
The Traditional Legal Assistance Program (TLAP) provides legal assistance including general counseling, benefits assistance, certificates/forms assistance, naturalization assistance, and tax information provided by visiting attorneys from Bet Tzedek
