National Parks

Provider: SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS NATIONAL RECREATION AREA

The park provides recreational programs for all residents of California. Services include beaches, bicycle trails/paths, fishing, national parks, and recreational trails. There are no geographic restrictions.

Services include backpacking, bicycling, birdwatching, camping, climbing, equestrian trails, fishing, hiking, picnic areas, ranger-led tours, skin diving, surfing, swimming, and whale watching.

The area preserves southern California's environment and protects the historical and cultural aspects of the region. The best time of year to visit is from winter to spring; during the summer months, visitors are encouraged to visit in the morning or late afternoons to avoid excessive heat exposure. Guests to the park are encouraged to bring plenty of water in order to avoid dehydration.

Food and lodging are found near the parklands close to the Pacific Coast Highway and the Ventura Highway. A Visitor's Center is open daily and can reserve park space for visitors. The Visitor's Center also furnishes a wide selection of books and maps about the park and its various programs.
