The organization provides self-help groups for people of all ages world wide who have a compulsive eating disorder. Services include a specialized information and referral for twelve-step self-help groups and public awareness/education. This is the administrative site; no direct services are provided. See the separate entries for individual chapter locations. There are no geographic restrictions.
The organization is based on the 12 steps and 12 traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous as adapted for OA and views compulsive overeating as a disease. Staff provide support with the physical, emotional and spiritual symptoms of this illness. Recovery is based on the concept of abstinence one day at a time. Members can remain anonymous and what is shared in meetings is confidential.
This office provides information about the dates, times, and locations of meetings worldwide; referrals to meeting places; and contact people. Brochures, pamphlets and periodicals are available.
