Parent Support Groups (Impulse Control Disorders)

Provider: BECAUSE I LOVE YOU

The program provides family life education for parents of children age three through adulthood who have behavioral problems. Services include parent support groups. Problem behavior may include substance abuse, running away, irregular school attendance and physical or verbal abuse. There are no geographic restrictions.

Meetings begin by dividing the large group into small groups of 10 to 12 parents who brainstorm, problem solve and develop an individual plan of action for each parent to carry out at home that week. After the small groups meet, a large group meeting is held for continued brainstorming and sharing of parent success stories. The program also refers to other resources both professional and non-professional. Parents are asked to come back for at least six consecutive meetings.

Also offered is a youth support group for youths who are 13 years of age or older.
