This is a cultural and arts organization which offers drama and music presentations, workshops and classes in the traditional Celtic arts and periodic special activities such as holiday festivals and art contests. The center also provides information about and referral to other Celtic-oriented resources in the Los Angeles area. There are no geographic restrictions.
The Center provides a variety of ongoing free activities and classes which are open to the general public. It also offers classes in Gaelic, traditional Gaelic dance (Ceildhe), and Celtic storytelling and history. Center volunteers provide information about and make referrals to other Gaelic events and resources in the Los Angeles area, including information about cultural activities, shops which specialize in Celtic products and instructors of various Celtic art forms. Volunteer musicians, dancers and storytellers from the Center are also available, on request, to give performances for community groups including participants of senior centers and residents of retirement homes and convalescent facilities.
A weekly get together is held (Seisiun) which includes Celtic dance, music, storytelling and one-act plays acquaints the newcomer with a variety of Celtic art forms in an informal social atmosphere. This event takes place at the Mayflower Club.
The Celtic Arts Center periodically produces plays which are either written by Celtic playwrights or are about Celtic-related topics; the performances are open to the public. The Center also sponsors periodic concerts of traditional Celtic music and offers occasional performances of works by and about people who are Native American, Afro-American, or who represent another ethnic minority in America.
