Community Organizing Assistance (Parents of People With Disabilities)

The agency provides education services to parents of children with disabilities to know more about special education laws and school district requirements to help their student receive equal access to education. Services include Adoption and Foster/Kinship Care Support Groups, Technical Assistance, and Community Organizing Assistance for Parents of Children and Youth with Disabilities. There are no geographic restrictions.
LRLC offers a training curriculum for parents. The Training Individuals in Grassroots Education Reform (TIGER) is a hands-on, self advocacy program designed to foster advocacy skills for families in need, so that they may successfully navigate the special education system. Participants meet once a month for several hours for 11 months and are trained by education advocates, attorneys and professionals.
The agency also provides a newsletter and a Tool Kit that contains advocacy information for parents.

Application Procedure
Call for information on how to sign up for a training or purchase a copy of the Toolkit. Applications are open every September through November. Classes begin in January for the year-long parent training program.
Fees
There are no fees for parent training. The Tool Kit is $50 in English.
