Adoptive Parent/Child Search
Provider: INTERNATIONAL SOUNDEX REUNION REGISTRY
The agency operates a computerized registry for adults age 18 and older in the United States who are searching for next of kin by birth, separated by adoption, divorce or abandonment. Services include a mutual consent reunion registry; however, the agency does not perform a search or provide search assistance for registrants. There are no geographic restrictions.
People may also request medical alert forms to register information which may be important to adoptees about genetic medical conditions. This is a confidential program that cooperates with public and private institutions; it does not release confidential information to a third party.
The registry provides a confidential, voluntary, national and international identification system that helps people reunite with their birth relatives, including those who have been separated from family members by adoption, divorce, foster care, and acts of war. Once a person registers, their form remains in force until the he or she requests that it be inactivated or notifies the program that his or her search has ended. If a match occurs of registrations from related people, the program notifies the registrants by phone. The program can also offer counseling for adoptees and their extended families who are matched through the registry who need support while they establish relationships.
