Civil State Trial Courts

This state trial court is an L A County Superior Court with jurisdiction over civil, criminal, small claims, and adult and juvenile traffic court cases that take place in Alhambra, Monterey Park, San Gabriel and Temple City. The court also hears criminal cases for the cities of Monrovia, South Pasadena and San Marino. Geographic restrictions apply. The court only hears small claims cases within their jurisdiction.

The court has limited jurisdiction over civil cases involving not more than $10, 000. It serves as a small claims court for cases involving $7,500 or less. It also has jurisdiction over criminal cases which involve misdemeanor or felony offenses that are punishable by a fine or less than 12 months imprisonment in county jails, or both; in violations of laws such as theft, traffic offenses and vagrancy; and conducts preliminary hearings for felony offenses such as arson, burglary and murder.

This court no longer hears any traffic matters or any limited civil matters.
