Food Safety Education
The hotline provides consumer assistance to help ensure that meat, poultry and egg products are stored and prepared safely at home, to avoid food-borne illness, and to offer a resource for reporting questionable or unsafe food. People may call to ask questions about safe cooking and storage times and temperatures, about foods that may need special handling and about the meaning of information on food labels. There are no geographic restrictions.

The Hotline is available Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm. A recorded message provides seasonal food safety information when the hotline is not staffed. Also, Ask Karen is available online Monday through Sunday, 24 hours per day. The Live Chat online is available Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm.
