The Vital Records Office is a processing unit that is responsible for registering, certifying, and providing Birth, Death, and Fetal documents that occur in the jurisdiction of Los Angeles County. It is also responsible for issuing burial permits for the interment, disinterment, and transit of human remains.
Out-of-hospital births must be registered with this office within the child's first year; any births registered on or after the child's first birthday must be processed as a Delayed Registration of Birth. Certified birth certificate copies may be ordered here as well.
